Audit office to monitor government cuts

The national audit office will this year for the first time provide an overview of the actual effect of government cuts, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Monday, quoting unnamed sources.

The audit office traditionally monitors ministry budgets to make sure money goes to the correct policy areas and is spent properly.
However, this year it will pay extra attention to efforts to get the government´s finances back under control, the paper says. This will include assessing whether or not the cabinet is succeeding in its efforts to cut €18bn.
