Top model Doutzen Kroes is to play one of the main roles in the first Dutch 3D film, director Reinout Oerlemans said on Thursday.
Nova Zembla will be Kroes’ first feature film role and Oerlemans’ second as director, Amsterdam’s Parool newspaper said.
The film, due to hit cinema screens in late November, is about the shipwreck of Willem Barents and his crew of 15 in the Arctic in 1596 and how they survived the winter.
Kroes plays the love interest of the cabin boy, who kept a logbook of their efforts to survive.
‘It is a small role but an important one,’ the model, who did not have an audition but has taken acting classes in New York, is quoted as saying in the Telegraaf.
