Small firms find it harder to borrow money

Around half of small and medium-sized firms found it difficult to borrow money from their bank last year, according to new research by the national statistics office CBS.

Almost 60% of small firm owners think banks were less willing to lend in 2010 than they were in 2007, before the financial crisis.
Only 61% of firms applying for a loan last year were helped by their bank, compared with 84% in 2007.
Construction sector firms and communications and information-based services found it hardest to borrow, the CBS said.
