Pollen not Saharan sand is covering cars

The yellow powder found on cars in many places at the moment is pollen, not sand from the Sahara, nature experts told Radio 1 on Tuesday.

The lack of rain means the pollen is hanging in the air and is more visible, said Arnold van Vliet of the Natuurkalender organisation.
At the moment, birch trees – a known allergen – are in full bloom, Van Vliet says. Beech and oak will follow next.
