Hero Brinkman lied when he said two years ago he had a drink problem, the PVV parliamentarian has told magazine In Contact, the youth publication for the fundamentalist Christian party SGP.

Brinkman said he made the claim because he was worried he would be expelled from the anti-Islam party. ‘But I did not have a drink problem. I am not an alcoholic,’ he is quoted as saying by the Telegraaf.
Brinkman also denied hitting a barman at the parliamentary press club – the incident which led to the accusations of alcoholism.
The MP, a former policeman, also told the magazine he tells the truth 99% of the time. ‘I have not lied once in this interview,’ the magazine quotes him as saying.
