Justice minister Ivo Opstelten is not in favour of a national dna base, he told the Volkskrant on Monday afternoon.

He was responding to calls earlier on Monday by Rotterdam police chief Frank Paauw for every Dutch national to hand over a sample of their dna for inclusion in a national data bank to help solve crime.
Opstelten told the paper Paauw’s comment was ‘disproportional’, adding that only a small proportion of the population is responsible for criminality.
At the moment, only people suspected of crimes with a jail sentence of at least four years have to give their dna.
Other reactions have been just as cool. The council of police chiefs is against the idea and parliament immediately distanced itself from the call.
