Early prognosis gives coalition alliance 35 seats, PVV fourth

The ruling coalition of the VVD and CDA, supported by the anti-Islam PVV, is unlikely to have a majority in the new-look senate, according to a preliminary prognosis for Nos television carried out by pollster Synovate.

The exit poll, based on voting intentions in the provincial elections, would give the VVD 15 seats in the 75-seat senate, an increase of one. The PvdA (Labour) is unchanged on 14 seats and the anti-Islam PVV would debut as the fourth-biggest party with nine seats.
The Christian Democrats, who currently have 21 seats in the senate, are set to fall back to 11.
Turnout is set to be slightly above 50%, the exit poll shows.
