Prostitution pass plan halted but registration will continue

The government has abandoned plans to give prostitutes a formal licence to operate but will continue with the registration of sex workers, home affairs minister Ivo Opstelten has told MPs.


The prostitution licence – which clients would need to see to make sure the girl is not a victim of trafficking – is opposed by the industry and prostitutes’ rights organisations.
They fear the pass and the official register will force prostitutes into the illegal sector.
