Queen Beatrix turns 73, equals Willem III’s record
Queen Beatrix celebrates her 73rd birthday on Monday although the official celebrations will not take place until the traditional Queen’s Day event on April 30th.
The queen is now as old as king Willem III, who died in 1890 at the age of 73 and is still the country’s oldest reigning monarch.
Beatrix’s mother, who died at the age of 94, stood down from the throne when she was 70.
