A prospective provincial councillor for the anti-Islam PVV in Noord Holland has been removed from the election list because he has two drink-drive convictions, the party’s campaign leader in the province Hero Brinkman said on Sunday.

The party said earlier Carlo de Bruin had pulled out of the campaign because he is too busy with his new job. But Brinkman now claims he was unable to produce a certificate of good behaviour (VOG), which all PVV candidates are now required to have.
De Bruin himself told the Parool on Saturday he had withdrawn from the race because his own company recruits Muslim women to work in the healthcare sector and does not consider Islamic headscarves to be a problem.
The PVV wants a ban on headscarves in public buildings.
