Opposition senators call for inquiry into privatisation

Left wing parties in the senate, or upper house of parliament, are calling for a parliamentary inquiry into privatisation in the Netherlands.

The Socialist Party, Labour and ChristenUnie want an investigation into 20 years of privatisation, which the SP says is the ‘biggest movement in society during that period but one which has not been really studied’.
If a majority of senators support the plan, it will be the first in the upper chamber’s history.
‘It is not an anti-privatisation issue. We want to look at the effectiveness of the process,’ said SP leader Tiny Kox.
