Central bank president Nout Wellink will have two successors when he steps down in July 2011, according to sources in The Hague quoted in the Telegraaf. One will deal with monetary policy and the other will supervise the banks.

Finance minister Jan Kees de Jager is preparing to split the job following the problems in 2009 when the DSB bank went bankrupt and ABN Amro had to be nationalised, the paper says.
De Jager wants to prevent any future loss of trust in monetary policy and the euro.
The minister has already changed the law to limit the tenure of the central bank president to two periods of seven years. Wellink has been in the job since 1997.
