Keep quotas for fines: chief constable

The chief constable of police region Zuid-Holland-Zuid has written to justice minister Ivo Opstelten asking him not to end the current system of quotas for fines.

Opstelten wrote to police chiefs in November 2010 telling them to stop requiring officers to meet the quotas. Now Arno Brok, who is also mayor of Dordrecht, says quotas are an important ingredient in improving traffic safety and in dealing with trouble on the streets.
Brok writes that he expects his officers to meet the quotas, according to the Telegraaf. If they do not, it will form an important part of their annual assessment.
Opstelten is sticking to his demand that quotas for fines be abolished, reports the paper.
Chief constables who do not comply should be ‘rapped over the knuckles’, the police federation told the Telegraaf.
