The early winter has already led to looming shortages in salt to keep the roads clear, salt producer Akzo Nobel said on Friday.

‘We are still okay but how long for depends on the weather. The forecasts for the next two weeks are for wintry weather,’ spokesman Huub Verbeeten told news agency ANP.
If extra supplies prove necessary, they will have to be imported from far off because most of Europe is also grabbling with the early snow and ice, he said.
