Boss of crèche at centre of abuse scandal steps down

The director of the one of the Amsterdam daycare centres at the centre of a child abuse scandal stepped down on Tuesday night.

Albert Drent, who is not a suspect, resigned as director of the Hofnarretje crèche group after a meeting with Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan. Council officials are to take over his day to day role.
However, Drent will continue to act as financial director and remains owner of all branches, the Telegraaf says, quoting from the statement issued by Drent and the city council.
Drent came under fire on Tuesday after it emerged sleepovers for four-year-olds had been organised at his home by one of the men at the centre of the abuse allegations.
Chief suspect Roberts Mickelsons worked for the Hofnarretje group for several years. He is suspected of abusing dozens of children in his care and making child pornography.
