Tougher sentences for attacking emergency service staff

The justice ministry is to triple the jail sentences of people convicted of attacking emergency service personnel and the police.

At the moment, people who attack ambulance staff or fire officers get jail terms which are 150% higher than those who attack ordinary civilians. But that will go up to 200% from January, justice minister Ivo Opstelten said.
Some 80% of emergency service workers claim to have been confronted with violence or aggression.
