Nationality to remain in basic citizen registration

The government has no plans to change the law to allow parents to choose which nationality their children are given, home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner said on Tuesday afternoon.

And nationality will continue to be a part of the basic registration of every citizen, Donner told MPs. A majority of MPs say only Dutch nationality should be recorded in the official register.
Even if another nationality, say Moroccan, is not officially recorded, the child still remains Moroccan, the minister said.
MPs are to debate the issue shortly.
