Government to emphasis three strong economic regions

The government is to focus its investments in three strong economic regions – Amsterdam Schiphol Utrecht, Rotterdam The Hague and Eindhoven Venlo – transport minister Melanie Schultz said in a speech to the transport sector on Saturday, news agency ANP reports.

‘These are the regions where there are most entrepreneurs, where the most people live and where most money is earned,’ the minister said.

The three regions are also important transport hubs, she said.
The minister said the government has reserved €40bn to spend on roads, waterways, rail and regional public transport over the next 10 years. Some half of that is for roads.
The minister said she plans to complete 800km of new motorway lanes by 2015.
