Education minister calls for broad debate on ‘all aspects’ of education

Education minister Marja van Bijsterveldt has called on teaching unions, parents, school governers and other interested groups to join a wide ranging discussion about the future of education.

Speaking during a debate in parliament, Van Bijsterveldt said a number of issues needed to be raised.
For example, are foreign trips still a necessary part of education when so many children go abroad with their parents?, she said.
‘Are six or seven weeks holiday really necessary to relax or can we organise things differently to reduce the pressure of work?,’ the Telegraaf quoted the minister as saying.
An open discussion can throw up all sorts of simple, refreshing and practical ideas to improve education, she said.
