Unions concerned about future of Nedcar

The unions are prepared to support cost cutting measures at Limburg car maker Nedcar, if the plant has a guaranteed future, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

Japanese majority shareholder Mitsubishi Motors has promised to give a definitive answer on the future of the plant by the end of the year. Nedcar has a workforce of some 1,600 and produces three and five-door versions of the Colt and Outlander.
´If it emerges that high costs are the argument to stop or reduce production at Born, we are willing to talk in return for job guarantees,´ Suat Koetloe of the De Unie told the paper.
´We want to do all we can to ensure the survival of Nedcar in terms of jobs and those of its suppliers,´ Henk van Rees of the FNV manufacturing union Bondgenoten said.
