Rabobank fined for breaking mortgage rules

The financial markets regulator AFM has fined Rabobank €150,000 for being too liberal with its mortgage policies.

The AFM says the cooperative bank gave higher mortgages than it should have done to young, well-educated starters, opening customers up to unnecessary risks.
Rabo has admitted it allows promising first-time buyers to base their mortgages on future expected earnings, but said this only happened after detailed discussions.
The bank is not appealing against the fine.
