Five men seriously injured in central Rotterdam building site accident

Five builders have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a building they were working on in central Rotterdam collapsed.

Two storeys of a 70 metre tower being built next to the Bijenkorf department store collapsed early on Thursday afternoon, burying the men in the rubble.
A sixth man was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
The injured men suffered broken bones and were taken by ambulance to several different hospitals. Dogs were brought in to make sure no-one else was buried in the rubble.

Stability

Engineers are currently assessing the stability of the rest of the building and nearby shops which have been evacuated.
According to the Telegraaf, the two lower floors collapsed as workers were pouring concrete on to the top floor of the building. The building was due to house shops and apartments.
