V&D, La Place sold to investment group Sun European

The V&D department store and La Place restaurant chains are to be sold to investment company Sun European, current owner Maxeda said in a statement on Tuesday.

Financial details were not disclosed but insiders say a takeover price of between €50m and €75m would not be far off the mark.
Maxeda, owned by a number of private equity funds, put V&D up for sale at the beginning of this year. Three years ago Maxeda sold off the Hema department store group.
Sun European is part of the US group Sun Capital which specialises in turning around problematic companies and owns 10 to 15 retail groups, mainly in America.
The Financieele Dagblad says the V&D group has been struggling to make a profit for some 30 years and various owners have tried and failed over the years to turn the group round.
The sale is expected to be finalised in November.
