Employers more cautious about workforce

Dutch employers are ‘clearly more cautious’ about employment prospects in the final three months of this year than they were in the third quarter, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, published on Tuesday.

The net employment outlook for the fourth quarter stands at a seasonally adjusted +1%, compared with 3% in the third quarter.
The figure is derived by subtracting the percentage of employers expecting a decrease in the size of their workforce from the percentage of employers expecting an increase.
Employers are positive about job prospects in six of the nine sectors looked at, with construction up at +4%. ‘Given the negative noises coming from the housing sector, this positive trend is probably due to other areas, such as road and waterway construction’, said Manpower spokesman Haiko van der Pol
The transport and storage sector is most positive at +9%, up from +6% in the previous quarter and 17 percentage points up on a year ago.
