Minister to appeal against integration course for Turks ruling

Caretaker integration minister Eimert van Middelkoop is to appeal against a court decision exempting two Turkish nationals from compulsory integration courses.

Earlier this month, a court in Rotterdam ruled that two Turkish nationals did not have to take the course because it conflicts with a treaty between the EU and Turkey on equal treatment.
The Netherlands requires many immigrants and foreign nationals to take a language and civic studies course but EU nationals are exempt.
Middelkoop is to appeal on the grounds that the integration course helps immigrants to find work and settle in the Netherlands. He is supported by Rotterdam and Vlaardingen local councils where the two Turks live.
