Many parents finding raising children stressful

Most parents think raising children is stressful and one third are worried they will fail to do a good job, according to a survey of 600 parents by J/M magazine.

Some 73% of parents surveyed said they were sometimes worried about their children’s behaviour and development, such as showing odd character traits. In a similar survey three years ago, 58% of parents were concerned about such issues.
The survey showed some 94% of parents think they can influence their child’s self confidence, 81% their relationships and 60% their success in society.
But Utrecht University professor Micha de Winter told the Volkskrant the fear of raising children is a middle-class issue. ‘If you are poor, you are worried about more than whether your child has attention deficit disorder and whether you are paying them enough attention,’ De Winter was quoted as saying.
