Healthcare unions plan action over pay

Health unions are to begin preparing to take action following the breakdown of talks on a new pay deal for care workers, news agency ANP reports on Friday.

Unions are demanding a 1.5% rise while employers have offered 1%.
The employers have also offered a year-end bonus of 0.4% this year and 0.25% in 2011. In return they want cuts in age-related pay system.
The pay deal will cover 400,000 nursing and care home staff, home care workers and maternity nurses.
The unions say industrial action will be modest and clients will not notice the difference. No regional or national demonstrations are so far being planned, a spokesman told news agency ANP.
