Heath insurance 'own risk' does not dampen demand

Wednesday 23 June 2010

The introduction of an own risk element into healthcare insurance has not impacted on demand, research group Nivel said on Wednesday.

The own risk - meaning patients pay the first €165 euros of their healthcare costs each year - has only led to 5% of patients considering whether treatment is necessary, Nivel says.

Nevertheless, a high own-risk charge does make people more aware of the cost of healthcare, the organisation said.

The next government is expected to put up the level of the own risk element still further and introduce charges for a number of treatments because healthcare spending is some €1.4bn over budget each year.

SO it sounds like they DO want people to just not USE healthcare! WTF! Well my leg is turning green, but hey.. I have 2! No need to see a dr I can't afford, right? *shaking head*

Seems that demand is linked to being sick. "Own risk" is just a bitter pill you have to pay, who ever heard of anything as stupid as choosing not to fall ill because of the cost.

No! No! No!

They actually do want people to get sick in Holland and to use Health Care Services.

They want you to pay extra to not get the help you need by adding the the expensive 'own risk' which most people on low incomes cannot afford. 'Own risk' also means that if you need a simple low-cost prescription every month to keep you breathing (and alive) you will find that it's not covered by Insurance and also comes under 'own risk'. I have to pay 32.50 every month for 10 months of prescriptions before they pay for the next two months!!!!

This is done so that they can keep people ill, in pain, and/or disabled, and not working ... so that hopefully they will die early thus reducing the population of Netherlands so they can make more savings on Health Care spending.
