Cohen still favourite for prime minister, but VVD leads polls

With just over a week to go before the general election, the VVD remains by far the biggest party in the latest Maurice de Hond opinion poll.

De Hond says the VVD is poised to take 37 out of 150 seats in parliament. The party currently holds 21.
Labour is second in the poll on 28 (now 33), the Christian Democrats third on 25 (now 41) and Geert Wilders’ PVV would take 17 (now 9).
But despite the VVD’s lead, a TNS Nipo poll for Nos tv shows Labour leader Job Cohen is still the most popular choice for prime minister with 32% support. VVD leader Mark Rutte has the support of 25% of voters.
Coalitions
The CDA’s preferred coalition, a combination with the VVD, D66 and GroenLinks would have 86 seats in parliament, according to the De Hond poll.
The right-wing coalition proposed by Wilders would have 79. However, De Hond’s poll shows 61% of the population is opposed to such an alliance.
