Maastricht votes to bail out football club MVV

Maastricht city council has agreed to bail out troubled first division football club which is in serious financial difficulty.

The council has agreed to buy the club’s stadium for €1.8m and wipe out debts of €1.7m on the condition the club appoints a new board and other creditors also wipe out their debts.
If one company presses ahead with a claim for unpaid bills, the club will be declared bankrupt, Nos tv said.
The deal must be finalised by June 1, when the football association will decide if MVV gets a licence for the next season.
MVV is the third first division club to get into trouble this year. Haarlem and Veendam have been declared bankrupt.
Premier division side Willem II is also in serious financial difficulty.
