Former minister tipped as Noord-Holland queen’s commissioner

Promiment Liberal party member and former home affairs minister Johan Remkes has been put forward as the new queen’s commissioner in Noord-Holland province.

Remkes will replace Harry Borghouts (GroenLinks), who stood down in December because of his role in the council’s loss of €78m in bankrupt Icelandic bank Icesave.
The nomination must still be approved by the cabinet.
The queen’s commissioner is the monarch’s technical representative in the 12 provinces and chairs the provincial council.
