Blue lighting for better test results?

Experiments at a primary school in a Brabant village appear to show that blue light improves pupil performance in tests, news agency ANP reports on Wednesday.

ANP says that pupils in a classroom flooded with a powerful blue light scored an average 8.7 percentage points more than children in three other classes. A month later, the gap had stretched to 13.6 points.
The report says teacher Tamara Voorjans has been using the special lighting designed by Philips since October. Blue light is used to pep children up in the morning and a yellow light to calm them down in rest periods. The project is under the control of Twente University professor of education Peter Sleegers.
ANP says the school in Wintelre is so pleased with the results so far that it is planning to equip all eight classrooms with the lighting systems, at a cost of €5,000 each.
The claim is the second piece of research based on Philips and blue light to hit the news in a week. Last week, local media reported Philips had abandoned research in to the effect of blue light on male sexual organs because it was ‘inappropriate’.
