Wednesday 17 February 2010
Dutch medal hopeful Annette Gerritsen fell hard during her first appearance at the Winter Olympics in Canada on Tuesday, ending her chances of a medal in the speed skating 500m.
The 24-year-old was in 'top form', according to her trainer, but toppled on the second bend after making a flying start.
According to the Telegraaf, it is the fourth time in 13 months that Gerritsen has found it difficult to keep her nerves under control.
Gerritsen is also competing in the 1,000m and 1,500m events.
Margot Boer was the highest-placed Dutch woman, ending the race in 4th place.
The Dutch team's only medal so far is Sven Kramer's gold in the 5,000m speed skating event.
