Wärtsilä cuts 570 jobs in the Netherlands
Tuesday 19 January 2010
Finnish ships motor maker Wärtsilä is to reduce its workforce in the Netherlands by 570 from the current total of 1,500 as part of an international reorganisation.
In total, 1,400 jobs will go at Wärtsilä worldwide. The company is shifting some production from Europe to China, where the maritime industry is growing.
Dutch industrial workers union De Unie said the job losses are an 'enormous blow'. Some 400 jobs will go at Drunen, east of Den Bosch in the south. A further 100 jobs are being cut in Zwolle.
