Some 30,000 couples go for quickie divorce

Some 30,000 couples took advantage of legislation allowing them to go through a quickie divorce between 2001 and 2009, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

To qualify for a quick divorce, couples first had to turn their marriage into a registered partnership, which can then be dissolved more easily. The quickie divorce was abolished last year because it was not recognised in some foreign countries and did not take children into full account, according to news agency ANP.
CBS research also shows that four years after a divorce some 50% of men are again living with a partner, compared with around 33% of women. Women are also less likely than men to see themselves living with someone again.
But half of both men and women who lived together without marriage find a new partner within four years, the figures show.
