Prince Maurits promotes e-car, for a fee

Prince Maurits is to get a maximum consultancy fee of €204,000 for promoting electric cars on behalf of the government, the Volkskrant reports on Thursday.

The prince can declare up to €156,000 in fees while his company The Source can claim up to €48,000 in offiice costs, the paper, which has a copy of the contract, says. The prince’s hourly fee is ‘in line with consultancy norms’ one source told the paper.
The prince, who is queen Beatrix’ nephew, was appointed chairman of the ministry’s Formule E-Team project, which aims to boost electric motoring, at the end of last year. The cabinet has set aside €65m to promote electric cars.
The contract shows that Maurits got the job because of his international and national network, his reputation among the general public and industry and ‘his royal stature’.
The prince is not the first royal family member to be paid by a government ministry, the paper points out. In 2003, princess Máxima earned €44,000 for her role as member of a commission to boost the public role of ethnic minority women.
