Solo sailor Laura may be put into care

The 14-year-old girl who hopes to become the youngest person to sail solo round the world, may be taken away from her father and put into care, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.

The paper says social workers have asked for a court hearing in Utrecht on Tuesday. Laura Dekkers ran away from home last week and was found on Sunday on the Caribbean island of St Maarten.
It is unclear how she managed to get to the island or what role her father may have played, the paper says. According to other media reports, she did not leave the country from a Dutch airport.
Laura arrived back in the Netherlands early on Tuesday morning and is being questioned by police, the Telegraaf reports. The police want to know how the girl, who is a ward of court, managed to leave the country. After the interview, she will be put in the care of social workers, the paper says.
