Schiphol airport slashes investments

Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport is to cut its planned spending on investments between now and 2014 by €1bn to €1.6bn, transport minister Camiel Eurlings told MPs on Monday.

Only investments which are strictly necessary will be carried out and the planned expansion of the main terminal building is to be delayed, the Financieele Dagblad quoted Eurlings as saying.
The expansion ‘will be delayed in principle until after 2014 because of current market expectations,’ Eurlings said.
Fewer passengers have been using Schiphol because of the economic crisis and the government has already scrapped an extra tax on flying in an effort to make the airport cheaper to use.
