'Eating fish does not stop heart failure'

Eating fish has no major role in preventing heart failure, according to a study by researchers at Wageningen University.

The study, which was started in 1990 and involved all men and women over the age of 55 living in a suburb of Rotterdam, found no difference in the risk of developing heart failure between those who did eat fish and those who didn't, the reseachers say in a news release.

The study is published in the October issue of the European Journal of Heart Failure.

'Scientists and health authorities are increasingly persuaded that the intake of fish - even in small amounts - will protect against the risk of fatal myocardial infarction [a heart attack],' Marianne Geleinjse said in the press release.

'However, there is no strong evidence that eating fish will protect against heart failure. One study has suggested that this might be so, but we could not confirm it in our cohort study of older Dutch people.'

Heart failure is a condition in which the heart can’t pump blood the way it should.

I am not surpriced, these low intakes wont make any difference.
Down under ( that's Australia)the recommended weekly amount of fish is
a minimum of 3 fishmeals a week at an average serve of 200 gram and grilled or steamed is best.

isnt there plenty of heavy metals etc in fish so i wouldnt want to have a majority fish diet, and yes it depends on how you cook it, yea i can surely see UK fish n chips being good for you lol

I'ts not the fish but rather the fatty oil, omega 3 , thats good for the cardiovascular system. Proven to help reduce the risk of heart attack by keeping good levels of choleterol high and maintaining "flexible" arteries. Heart failure is not a heart attack, but often the end result of a heart attack. The heart attack damages the heart muscle, thus the heart cannot pump the way it should. Virus's can also cause heart damage, as well as alcholol and drug abuse....don't stop eating your fish..:=)

Frozen fish has always scared me. Look at how much frozen fish is consumed v/s fresh fish. Being one who has always lives on a major ocean/sea I love fresh caught fish. It is when smokes salmon is available in markets all over the globe. Live lobsters in Denver, Colorado to frozen fast food in Nepal. Take care in disposing of those CLF bulbs. They don't go into the normal trash. There are centers that collect them and reprocess the mercury. I appreciate you in not poisoning my future dinners. Fish cooked over a flame is the best, fried in lard/oil is disgusting.

well, i prefer being dead at my 70 being able to drink, smoke and eat whatever i want rather than living until 90 just being "healthy"..
