Parking fees generate €533m for councils

Dutch local authorities expect to earn €533m from car parking charges this year, 10 times the 1989 figure, national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

In total, 159 of the country’s 400 plus local authorities charge locals and visitors for parking. In 1989, 129 councils had introduced parking fees, the CBS said.
Top earner is Amsterdam, which generated €131m from parking fees. Amsterdam was recently found to be the world’s most expensive city to park a car in for a day.
Parking also accounts for 22% of the tax income earned by the seaside resort of Zandvoort, the CBS said.
