Philips, LCD makers in Brussels cartel probe

Electronics giant Philips is under investigation for its involvement in a possible LCD screen cartel through its former subsidiary LG, Nos tv reports on Monday.

The commission confirms it has contacted various firms about possible ‘restrictive business practices’.
Philips’ involvement centres on its role as former joint owner of LG. It sold its final stake in that company in March 2009. Philips told Nos it would deliver a robust defence against any allegations.
LCD screens are used in mobile telephones, portable music players (MP3) and digital cameras and in monitors for notebook and personal computers and televisions.
