Schiphol to farm out its parking activities
Wednesday 03 June 2009
Amsterdam's Schiphol airport is to farm out its parking activities to the private sector, director Jos Nijhuis says in an interview with the Financieele Dagblad on Wednesday.
The airport group is also looking at contracting out other non-core activities, Nijhuis said. 'We have made a strategic choice to outsource more activities,' he told the paper. 'We are now researching contracting out parking management.'
Schiphol's 35,000 parking places generated turnover of nearly €82m last year. Other locations generated a further €8m.

Ok, so start the clock ticking for the countdown to a doubling of parking charges and an introduction of fees for set-down and pick-up. Privatisation almost invariably means less pay for staff, more costs for consumers and a nice dividend for shareholders!
