Plans to continue the electronic tagging of prisoners, so they can live at home, came under fire from MPs on Thursday.

Junior justice minister Nebahat Albayrak wants to continue using electronic tagging for some categories of prisoners. The measure was introduced in 2005 because of the shortage of cells.
Now the Netherlands has a surplus of cells but the minister wants to keep the electronic tagging option because figures show it does stop people returning to crime.
In May she announced plans to close down eight prisons, cancel new prison building programmes and cut 1,200 jobs in the sector.
Last year some 2,000 people served their sentence at home with an electronic ankle band to register their movements.
