Hybrid cars doubled in one year

The number of hybrid cars in the Netherlands doubled last year to over 23,000, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

Hybrid cars are vehicles which are powered by both fossil fuels such as petrol and an electric motor, meaning they cause less pollution and are more energy efficient.
The number of hybrid lease cars went up by 3,500 to over 12,000 and account for just over half the total.
People who drive an energy-efficient company car only have to pay 14% tax on the new value of the car, compared with 25% for ordinary vehicles, the NRC reported.
