EU vote: CU/SGP may link to Conservatives

The two Dutch MEPs representing the orthodox Christian parties SGP and ChristenUnie are considering joining forces with Britain’s Conservative party in the European parliament, news agency ANP reports.

MEP Peter van Dalen told ANP the party needed to join a new alliance because the eurosceptic ID grouping no longer exists.
A link-up with the European Christian Democrats was an option but the SGP and ChristenUnie do not agree with the aims of creating a European super state, he said. The presence of Berlusconi’s party was also an issue, he said.
Britain’s Conservative party won 25 seats in the election and can form its own faction if it finds support from at least six countries.
