Private investors wanted for ABN Amro

Finance minister Wouter Bos wants private investors to come up with some of the money for the capital injection sought by nationalised bank ABN Amro, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Thursday.

‘It does not have to be public capital… it could be private money as well,’ the minister was quoted as saying after a meeting at the central bank.
Earlier Bos said he wanted pension funds to take a stake in Dutch banks. Sources told the FD that talks on boosting pension fund involvement in ABN Amro are under way.
Last week, ABN Amro CEO Gerrit Zalm said the bank would need a capital injection to help it stand on its own two feet when it merges with Fortis.
