Uefa fines NEC for referee missile incident

The European football organisation Uefa has fined Nijmegen football club €50,000 for a missile- throwing incident during the club’s Uefa Cup match against Hamburger SV, news agency ANP reports.

Slovenian referee Darko Ceferin was hit by an object during the second half and developed a head wound.
NEC director Jacco Swart said he was shocked by the size of the fine. ‘We have apologised to Uefa and we have done all we can to prevent this sort of excess,’ he told ANP.
NEC got through to the third round of the Uefa Cup for the first time this season but was beaten by Hamburg.
