Ministers mum on queen’s nationality

Friday 06 March 2009

Ministers still refuse to say if queen Beatrix holds another nationality alongside Dutch, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.

Some say Beatrix can claim British nationality through her relation princess Sophia of Hannover. Beatrix’s father Bernhard was German.

The paper says that when Beatrix’ sister Magriet was born in Canada in 1943, everything was done to make sure she was officially Dutch. The room where she was born was temporarily removed from Canadian control to make sure Magriet could not be Canadian.
