Heart-stopping gene discovered

A gene which causes the heart to stop beating resulting in sudden death has been discovered by cardiologists at Amsterdam’s AMC teaching hospital.

Now doctors have found the gene in 300 people from 10 families in Gouda and Woerden, an internal defribrilator can be implanted to keep the heart beating regularly.
The gene has been traced back to a common ancestor in the 18th century who had defective DNA, says the AD.
