Football transfer season ends quietly

The sale of striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Real Madrid for €27m is the only major move by a Dutch football club in this transfer season, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The window for transfers closed on Monday night.
But although no other big deals took place, around 100 premier and first division club players have changed sides this season, the paper says. Last year there were 113 transfers.
The economic downturn has hit many of the clubs’ external sources of funding, so there has been less money to make significant buys, the Telegraaf said.
Alkmaar club AZ, currently nine points clear in the premier division, strengthened its side with the addition of Ragnar Klavan from Heracles.
But more importantly, Moussa Dembele, Mounier Er Hamdaoui and Demy de Zeeuw will complete the season with AZ, the Telegraaf said.
Rotterdam’s struggling Feyenoord did not buy or sell a single player, the paper said.
